Treatment-emergent central sleep apnea was formerly called complex sleep apnea. The word treatment refers to the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment given to patients who suffers from obstructive sleep apnea. Central sleep apnea may occur at the initiation of CPAP therapy in around one in ten patients and resolves by itself without any intervention in most cases.
