Sawtooth waves are a unique type of electroencephalogram waves that occurs at REM sleep. It can easily be misinterpreted as epileptiform discharges. However, it’s a healthy variant of the theta rhythm. Sawtooth waves are sharp serrations of waves, resembling the teeth of a plain-toothed saw. It’s observed most clearly in central electrodes.
