Catathrenia

Home Catathrenia
Catathrenia or nocturnal groaning is a unique pattern of breathing during sleep. It can be confused with sleep apnea because both breathing patterns involve holding the breath or cessation of the inhalation-exhalation. People with catathrenia usually exhale with a distinct and high decibel noise. Some patients wake up to their groaning, whereas others become aware of this condition due to their partners' discomfort.
