Somniphobia is characterized by a fear of sleeping, and can be triggered by thoughts of sleep, intensifying as evening approaches.
The disorder stems from varying causes and can lead to significant health problems requiring treatment. Although somniphobia is relatively new, it often manifests as fear and avoidance of bedtime.
Somniphobia often co-occurs with other anxiety-related disorders, seldomly occurring on its own. The disorder can be managed through different treatment modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure therapy, or yoga/meditation.
