Sleepwalking is a specific type of REM parasomnias. Patients in slow-wave sleep (very deep sleep) start walking or performing complex behaviors. Patients maintain their sleep during these actions. Sleepwalking is more common during childhood and usually disappears in adulthood. This condition is also known as somnambulism.
