Sleep Stage 2 (NREM Stage 2) is one of the three stages of NREM sleep. In this stage, a slowdown occurs in the brain and other autonomic activities. There is a decrease in body temperature, respiratory and heart rhythms, the eye stops moving and the skeletal muscles relax. It is not easy for a person to wake up in this phase. The average adult spends about half of their sleep in this stage.
