Sleep-Related Laryngospasm

Home Sleep-Related Laryngospasm
A laryngospasm is when the vocal cords constrict and don't allow air to flow freely. It causes a feeling of suffocation. During sleep, one wakes up with fear, feeling that they can't breathe. A whistling sound called stridor is often heard, resulting from the very little air passing through the constricted vocal cords. One of the common underlying causes of this condition is gastroesophageal reflux.
