Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder in which the brain fails to regulate wakefulness efficiently. Narcolepsy type 2 refers to narcolepsy without cataplexy. Narcolepsy type 2 is when patients don't suddenly lose their muscle tone, only experiencing other symptoms of narcolepsy, such as going into REM sleep much faster than normal and having low hypocretin-1 levels.
