Comorbid insomnia used to be called secondary insomnia. At least half of the people with insomnia have comorbid health conditions. The term comorbid insomnia describes how patients with insomnia have a comorbid psychiatric or medical illness that causes insomnia. It is not rare that insomnia patients have other complaints, like anxiety disorders, depression, or dysthymia.
